ECG An ECG (electrocardiogram) is a test that checks for problems with the electrical activity &.electrical recording of the heart. The spikes and dips in the tracings are called waves. Uses of ECG To look for cause of unexplained chest pain, which may be caused by a heart attack To check for causes of various symptoms such as shortness of breath, dizziness, fainting and palpitations. To evaluate the health of the heart in presence of other disease conditions or risk factors such as family history of heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, smoking and high cholesterol Various Heart problems diagnosed by ECG Abnormal rhythm (arrhythmia) – rapid, slow or irregular heart beats Congenital heart defects involving the conducting (electrical) system Poor blood supply to the heart Enlargement of the heart Abnormal position of the heart Damage to the heart such as when one of the heart’s arteries is blocked (coronary occlusion)
